Nearly 40 employees of the Steelcase® dealer's Beltsville, MD facility attended the three-day International Office Moving Institute seminar lead by Ed Katz. OfficeInSight, a furniture industry publication, carried the news of Arbee's accomplishment on page 12 of its May 26 issue. The Office Furniture Dealers Association publication, OFDA News Bulletin, also lauded the achievement in their latest edition.

Arbee Associates redefined one-stop shopping after becoming the first ever furniture dealer to receive IOMI's Certified Project Manager designation. Now under the Arbee umbrella of services, Washington DC-area businesses can hire one company to handle all relocation needs.

Arbee Associates, and other project management companies, award millions each year to moving companies in order to provide the full spectrum of relocation services. As furniture dealers look for ways to diversify in the face of a weak economy, more are expected to add project management to their list of services.

“The industry trend is for more and more O&I revenue for movers to come from project management companies. Movers who partner with the right ones stand to gain substantially,” said Ed Katz, head of IOMI and former owner of Peachtree Movers in Atlanta.

Arbee sells and rents new office furniture, stores or disposes of surplus furniture, disassembles, moves, and reconfigures systems furniture, cleans and refurbishes furniture, and moves furniture, computers, and contents for business relocations. Arbee Associates also holds the elite Steelcase® Qualified Advanced Furniture Services Dealer designation.

Now as Certified Project Managers, Arbee Associates can quickly and skillfully choreograph business moves to ensure that everyone works together in harmony to minimize the risk of interference, delays, and cost overruns.

In 1996, furniture manufacturing giant Steelcase® modified its warranty position for lateral files moved fully loaded with a Spider Crane, an Office Moving Resource Center product exclusive.

Erik Quigley and fellow Arbee Associates employees participate in Certified Project Manager training by IOMI.

"Our company is in the commercial office furniture business in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area. We also have a robust facilities services offering including office and electronics relocation and customer storage. In the spring of 2003, you conducted your IOMI Seminar for (18) members of my operations department staff at our distribution center in Beltsville, MD. Your seminar included the modules for Move Estimating, Move Operations and Move Marketing. I found the seminar to be informative, effective and worthwhile. Our challenge was to expose our operations employees to a system that would allow them to produce accurate estimates without the need to assign senior staff to attend project walkthroughs. I found that my staff benefited from learning an estimating method that is sound, user friendly and that produces consistent results. They also benefited from learning innovative techniques for damage-free loading and relocation of furniture, office contents and electronics equipment. Another key benefit was learning a formal system for assigning an appropriately sized move crew at origin and destination locations. In summary, I found that your training provided many of the “tricks of the trade” that are normally learned through years of industry experience in a condensed and enjoyable format."

P.S. We have found that the ‘Certified Project Manager’ certificates . . . are an effective marketing tool when included with our relocation proposals.
