About officemoves.com

Since 1997, officemoves.com has been the global storefront for the International Office Moving Institute (IOMI®), the world's only university of office moving, and Office Moving Systems, Inc., manufacturers and distributors of highly specialized office moving products and equipment.

We are not an alliance, a trade association, or a moving company, but an independent, unbiased office moving resource and training organization beholden to no one. We accept no advertising. The links from within our pages to other web sites are reciprocal.

For more than a decade, many in the moving industry and companies planning a move have come to rely on officemoves.com as a steadfast source of best practices. We advocate, and through the International Office Moving Institute (IOMI®), teach:

Minimizing the risk of damage to walls, floors, doors and elevators during a move. IOMI® Certified Office Movers® and Certified Project Managers® learn the best practice methods for installing extensive building protection.
Minimizing the risk of damage to furniture and computers during a move. IOMI® Certified Office Movers® and Certified Project Managers® learn the best-practice methods for wrapping every monitor, printer, CPU, server, and copier with two layers of anti-static bubble wrap (with the bubbles facing the bubbles) instead of pad-wrapping computers with filthy furniture pads.

Timing is of the essence on an office move. If the mover doesn’t finish on time, it can cost their customer thousands of dollars of nonproductive downtime. IOMI® Certified Office Movers® and Certified Project Managers® learn an estimating formula that’s based upon man-hours instead of the unreliable method typically used on household moves that's based on weight. The IOMI® proprietary estimating formula is uncannily accurate because it factors in not only volume but unique origin and destination logistics.
How can you verify a prospective mover or project manager is IOMI®-certified? If they can't produce credentials, check our list of Certified Office Movers® or Certified Project Managers®. If they aren't on our list, they aren't IOMI®-trained.

US grants registered trade mark to IOMI®

At the start of 2011, the International Office Moving Institute (IOMI®) counts Certified Office Movers® in 36 states plus Washington DC, the UK, and Australia.

That means that all key employees at every branch of the world's largest agents, van lines, and independents have successfully completed training and earned the right to call themselves IOMI® Certified Office Movers®.

In piling up such impressive numbers for the 14-year-old institute, the head of IOMI®, Ed Katz, crisscrossed the U.S. 20 times in just 2010 alone.

Also in 2010, the U.S. Patent Office approved IOMI’s® registered trade mark applications for both the organization’s acronym and its flagship training program, preventing trade associations, alliances, companies, or individuals from lawfully using IOMI® Certified Office Mover® without earning it.

The registration certificate from the US Patent and Trademark Office states that the IOMI® logo is intended “to be used by authorized persons” who have “successfully completed a designated training program on the fundamentals of moving an office and managing the move” and “continues to meet the educational requirements of the certifier”.

The government spent nearly three years scrutinizing IOMI’s® instructional material in sales and marketing, job estimating formula, and operations before granting the familiar “R” in a circle.

“The US Trade Mark Office rarely grants registered trade marks for training such as ours because few programs can hold up under the review process,” said Katz.  “Being granted a registered trade mark recognizes and protects the proprietary and uniqueness of our IOMI® brand.”

Through advocacy and training, officemoves.com is dedicated to educating consumers and elevating the perceived image of the moving industry. In early 2008, IOMI® proudly partnered with Georgia Highlands College, a unit of the University System of Georgia in Cartersville, to award Continuing Education Credits for Certified Office Mover® and Certified Project Manager® training when held at the Cartersville campus.

In internet history, 10 is a big number

FEB 8, 2007 - In the history of the internet, 10 is a significant number. By 1997, early adopters of the new-fangled idea were throwing up web sites right and left. One to jump in on faith alone was Ed Katz with officemoves.com. Now, 10 years later, the office moving resource center celebrates a rare milestone; 10 years on the web with the same name at the same address.

“Our concept back then of a training and resource center for office moving hasn’t changed,” said Katz.

Visitors value the site for its long period of dependability. The web address, which caters to moving companies, furniture dealers, project management companies, building managers, and companies planning a move, registered just under 1.2 million hits by more than 46,500 visitors in 2006.

“This is a significant milestone in a long string of significant milestones. We’re saying thank you with monthly contests all year long,” Katz said.
